A Different Approach to Pediatric Endocrinology Care
At Endocrine Lifestyle Pediatrics, we focus on understanding why symptoms are happening—not just treating them.
A common condition we treat is polycystic ovarian syndrome ( PCOS) in teens, where the root cause is insulin resistance, a metabolic condition that affects hormones, energy, and long-term health.
By addressing this early, we can change the course of your teen’s health.
Conditions we treat:
-
Lifestyle medicine can treat insulin resistance, the root of these chronic conditions and hormonal imbalance, irregular periods.
-
For some individuals with hypothyroidism due to autoimmune thyroiditis, symptoms like weight gain and fatigue can persist even when thyroid lab results are within the normal range. A lifestyle medicine approach—focused on anti-inflammatory nutrition, optimal physical activity, and restorative sleep—can help alleviate these symptoms and support overall well-being.
-
If you're concerned about metabolic dysfunction or want to take proactive steps to prevent it, we offer comprehensive screening and personalized lifestyle recommendations to support optimal metabolic health.
-

The college send-off tradition reminds me that wisdom doesn’t always come from grand speeches—it often comes from small, steady lessons about taking care of ourselves and others. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or healthcare provider, helping students enter college with a foundation in self-care, balance, and confidence may be the most meaningful gift we can offer as they begin this new adventure.
PCOS in Teens: Why a Lifestyle Medicine Approach Matters
Apr 8 Written By Y. Annie Wang, MD
When a teen is diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the focus often lands on hormones, weight, or irregular periods. But PCOS is much more than that—and treating it effectively requires looking at the bigger picture.
Example of how Lifestyle Medicine guidelines align with the latest American Diabetes Association Guidelines:
“Youth with overweight/obesity and type 2 diabetes and their families should be provided with developmentally and culturally appropriate comprehensive lifestyle programs that are integrated with diabetes management to achieve a 7-10% decrease in excess weight. Adolescents should be encouraged to participate in at least 60 min. of moderate to vigorous activity daily with muscle and bone strength training at least 3 days/week and to decrease sedentary behavior. Nutrition for youth with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, like for all children and adolescents, should focus on healthy eating patterns and emphasize consumption of nutrient-dense, high-quality foods, and decreased consumption of calorie-dense, nutrient-poor foods, particularly sugar-added beverages. Intensive lifestyle interventions focusing on weight loss, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and dysglycemia are important to prevent overt macular disease in early adulthood.”

Meet Your Pediatric Endocrinologist
Why I started this practice:
After years in academic medicine, I began to notice a pattern.
Children and teens were coming in with real symptoms—fatigue, weight gain, early signs of metabolic disease— for teens, this included irregular periods, excess hair growth and/or hair loss—but often left with:
Reassurance without delving deeper into the other pillars of health besides diet and exercise
Medications that don’t completely treat all the symptoms
Little time to address the whole person, whole family
I knew there had to be a better way to care for these patients.
So, I created Endocrine Lifestyle Pediatrics to offer something different: thoughtful, unrushed, root-cause care that supports long-term health—not just short-term symptom relief.
